Now that you've installed your EPIC card, you are ready to
get your joystick working again. In DOS mode, change to your EPIC directory
and type
LOADEPIC
This will load the default joystick setup, including all
axii and four gamebuttons. At least one gamebutton must be available for
the calibration process.
Now run (also from the DOS mode) TEST128 and verify
that four gamebuttons are present. Each time you press a button, a number
on your screen should become active. Click on ANALOGS and make sure
that the bars (visible at the bottom of the window) move when you move
your joystick.
Return to Windows and change into the control panel. You
should have a joystick icon now. Double-click on it and establish a custom
joystick with two axis and four buttons. Calibrate your joystick just as
you did before you had the EPIC card.
Within the EPIC directory, you will find a program called
"Joystick". This is a very powerful tool that allows you to calibrate your
joystick and modify the calibration curve of your joystick. You can also
map keypresses to your other analog channels (for example the range knob
on your TQS throttle) and many more. Because it would not make any sense
when I write every detail about this program, here
is the documentation.
From this point, everything is set up as it should be and
you can start with writing your own EPL file.
